Premier Paper’s “premiere” stand

Premier Paper has been the talk of the show with its movie-themed stand, complete with real life characters to engage those passing by the stand.

Speaking with Dave Jones, marketing director of Premier Paper Group, about the idea behind the stand, he comments: “The response has been tremendous, not just from visitors to the stand but from other suppliers as well.

“I think it’s been a bit different – the idea was to make a statement, to get some attention and I think we’ve certainly done that. It’s [been] as good as I had hoped it would be.”

The team at Premier Paper were not alone however, as they had some special guests in the form of Marilyn Monroe, Captain Jack Sparrow and on day three, Darth Vader and his stormtroopers.

It wasn’t just a good-looking stand, as each piece of ‘merchandise’ being given away was adapted to fit the name of the product used to create it, using the movie theme to illustrate it.

Jones adds: “For me, it’s been a great experience because we tried something a bit different, and it worked. I suppose that reflects the industry we’re in as well, because we basically sell flat sheets of substrate, but it’s what our customers do with it that really, really inspires us. It’s amazing what they can turn our sheets and our products into.”

Film posters were adapted to fit the product name

It has been a particularly colourful show, with each exhibitor doing their best to catch the eye of visitors and potential clients.

Righton Blackburns, which supplies substrates to the industry, reflected on the show since the two companies merged in November. Colin Double, national business development manager for the company, says things are looking up for those working with plastics.

Double comments: “We’re always asked: is it a recyclable product? And generally it is, cast acrylic will be reground and re-entered back into the system, so it continues to be regenerated. I think there is a lack of knowledge about plastics with PET and PETG – PET is normally used as a packaging item and that’s what ends up as bottles or similar, and ends up in the ocean.

“This product [PETG] doesn’t do that because it’s reused, hopefully not time and time again, but to a point where it’s actually aimed at the right markets which is signage, point-of-sale and point-of-purchase area.”

The show has flown by for all of those involved, and as the stands are deconstructed later today all that will be left is the visitors’ experiences of this trade show – proving that trade shows are still vital to this industry to provide inspiration.
