Recognising innovative women
Daniela Paredes Fuentes, founder of 3D design system, Gravity Sketch, has been announced as one of nine Women in Innovation 2019 winners. Awarded by the UK government’s Technology Strategy Board, Innovate UK, the winners received £50,000 to support their businesses.

The awards celebrate innovative companies which are women-led
Gravity Sketch is a virtual reality software that allows designers to sketch in a 3D space. The immersive 3D design allows users to explore and communicate ideas directly in 3D through augmented reality and virtual reality.
Featuring workflow integration, users can export content in a variety of formats, providing the freedom to take a design on to the next phase.
Innovate UK launched Women in Innovation in 2016, after research revealed that just one in seven applications for Innovate UK support came from women.

Dr Ian Campbell, interim chief executive of Innovate UK says: “Innovate UK’s Women in Innovation Awards address a key barrier for diversity in innovation – a lack of female role models. By recognising their achievement with purple plaques, we are making sure that our 9 newly-crowned winners inspire the next generation of female innovators.
“Whether it’s inspiring young students showing a passion for STEM, someone with the spark of an idea or an innovative business ready to be taken to the next level, the Women in Innovation 2019 campaign aims to drive long term and far-reaching change.”
Speaking to 3D Printing Industry, Fuentes says: “Some people are ashamed of sketching. Our education system seems to have built us like that. It’s either you’re a Da Vinci, or you don’t draw. There are so many great ideas stuck in people’s heads. Maybe they haven’t evolved to become great ideas because the tools aren’t there yet.”
