BHMA Sign and Display Solutions, a sign seller but not a manufacturer, has highlighted how imperative it is to make those aware of the correct procedure when a spill occurs. The firm offers signage that alerts workers of what to do and where spill kits are located.
The company’s advice includes having an appropriate spill kit available as well as personal protective equipment. Then for small and large spills, you will need to evacuate the area and call for help.
Next is to ventilate the area, notify the supervisor or suitable member of staff and containing the spill with absorbent socks. And finally, block floor drains and clean up the spill with the contents of the kit, dispose of the used kit in sealed bags and report the spill to the correct authority if necessary.

Trade Shop Direct, a sister company of BHMA, has a number of kits that can help in the case of spill. BHMA also says that spilled solvent and contaminated water should never be allowed to drain off into sewers, a body of water or into the ground.
