Signs Express (Exeter) has been nominated for its signage at The Leat Student Accommodation

The Exeter branch of Signs Express was shortlisted for its work on an architectural project for student accommodation in the city. The Leat Student Accommodation tasked the firm with creating both internal and external signage for the bespoke accommodation. Set in historic buildings, the signage needed to create an industrial heritage feel in keeping with the architecture, which was achieved using a mix of stainless steel, Corten steel and aged Verdigris copper.

Nick Baxter-Sibley, co-owner of Signs Express (Exeter) comments: “We loved being involved in this project as it enabled us to use creativity in our specification of the signage. We were able to provide a solution which perfectly complements the historic nature of the site and surrounding area and achieves the client’s aspiration and are delighted to receive national recognition for the work.”

This was a very rewarding project to be involved in and we are delighted to receive recognition from the sign industry’s governing body

Further north, Signs Express (Falkirk) has also been shortlisted for its work with Hostelling Scotland’s rebranding across its 34 sites across Scotland. The project involved creating signage for both the inside and outside of the hostels that needed to match the new look of the buildings. For communal areas, bespoke 3D representation of the contours of the local area were displayed as centrepieces, set within a timber frame and illuminated. Halo illuminated lettering in the reception areas were installed to reflect a bright and modern feel that the client was seeking.

Steve McMurray, owner of Signs Express (Falkirk) comments: “This was a very rewarding project to be involved in and we are delighted to receive recognition from the sign industry’s governing body. When specifying the signage, we were mindful that the look and feel needed to complement the natural beauty of the area whilst also understanding Hostelling Scotland is a charity with limited budgets. I’m extremely proud of my team. Their innovative problem solving, and excellent project management skills have no doubt helped us achieve this accolade.”

The Stoke branch of Signs Express was also nominated for its wide-format exterior sign for Reliance Medical. The logo was a similar size to a house and was fitted to the firm’s new 25,000 sq ft premises in August.

Managing director of Signs Express Jonathan Bean says: “I’m extremely proud of the work our network undertakes and it’s a fantastic feeling to have this recognised nationally against the hundreds of award entries the British Signs & Graphics Association receive. The three projects show the breadth of our capability and our ability to provide our clients innovative solutions, an area we pride ourselves on. I’d like to wish our three centres shortlisted this year all the very best in the awards.”

The winners of the British Sign Awards 2018 will be announced at a special event in Leicester on November 8th.
