Our long love affair with aluminium

The ancient Greeks used the mineral alum for various processes, such as colour dye, but it wasn’t until the last two centuries that our long love affair with aluminium began.

The UK company Perspex Distribution has extended its warranty for its aluminium product Alupanel

It was in the 18th century that scientists realised that a new metal could be produced from the clay like substance.

Aluminium was one of the last commercial metals to be discovered and has become immensely popular due to its versatility, flexibility and recyclability. But that very malleability means it is not the toughest of materials. However, combined with a synthetic substrate in a sandwich sign-makers have discovered a strong and yet flexible material.

Perspex Distribution has extended its warranty for its aluminium product Alupanel that features a polyethylene core between brushed aluminium sheets creating a sandwich. The firm says it has improved its aluminium composite offering with the announcement that their range of aluminium composite panels now have a five-year external warranty. Brushed aluminium is one of their most popular specialist finishes for signage, displays and printed graphics due to its finish and ability to resist the elements.

In a statement the company says: “Alupanel is the only brand of aluminium composite manufactured in the UK and the improved warranty marks a further development in this locally produced material. Alupanel brushed aluminium is perfect for creating high quality, eye-catching projects in a variety of areas including retail design, sign-making, POS/POP, interior design and furniture construction.

“The full range includes one of the widest ranges of metallic finishes available – with all other brushed metals and mirror finishes supplied with a five-year internal warranty. All Alupanel products are manufactured with A5005 alloy offering enhanced corrosion resistance, improved cutting capabilities and superior routing performance.”
