Tourists and fans can have a photo with Captain Corto Maltese

To celebrate this anniversary, Metropole 3D, which is based in Paris, France have been set the task of creating a life-size replica of Maltese. The sign company will hope that the project will also demonstrate how powerful 3D printing truly is.

Until October 31st  2017, tourists and fans will be able to visit Maltese and take a selfie for their social media channels, or have a printed version of the photo to keep. He is currently sat on a bench outside the Gare de Paris-Austerlitz.

Maltese was created using the Massivit 1800 by Paris-based Metropole 3D

The captain is approximately 1.32m tall, and was constructed in just under three days. The sign firm created Maltese using a Massivit 1800, before spray painting the large figurine and placing the sea captain on his bench.

Pratt, who was born in Rimini in Italy, and died in Switzerland in 1995, produced the comic that has been hailed as one of the most artistic and literary graphic novels. Pratt conducted extensive historical research to create Maltese.

The Massivit 1800 can print up to 35cm/h

Not only was the statue created to celebrate the anniversary of Corto Maltese, but to also demonstrate the capabilities of the Massivit 1800, which can print up to 35cm/h and full models can be created in hours.

The statue and bench are alongside printed boards that display images from the comics, alongside other characters that were part of the series.
