Don't panic: Rudi Blackett says wait and see over the referendum

The exhibition chief who has brought stability to the sign-making’s premier exhibition says the industry would have to wait and see how the Scottish independence referendum panned out. With jitters being felt across British industry and millions wiped off the stock market and money fleeing south, Blackett said there are pros and cons to a Yes vote.

His essential message was nobody actually knows how the vote will go and in particular how a Yes vote would affect business in the longer term

He pointed out that in Ireland, where there is a border between the UK’s Northern Ireland and the Eurozone of the Irish Republic, business didn’t find the border too much of a problem, with companies working on both sides of the divide. However he pointed out a new nation north of Hadrian’s Wall could mean new regulations and red tape for firms. His essential message was nobody actually knows how the vote will go and in particular how a Yes vote would affect business in the longer term.

The NEC exhibition held in the spring attracts firms from across the world and Europe including the Republic of Ireland with visitors from the sign industry treating the event as networking event as well as a place to see and buy new kit.
