Sign firm helps after 'sick' war memorial damage

A sign-maker has branded the vandalism of two London war memorials as 'sick and despicable' as he stepped in to provide a temporary banner to cover the damage

Veteran's groups have hit out at the vandals

“What has happened is despicable. I can't believe that someone has defaced the War Meorial. It is there for the 55,000 people that lost their live fighting for this country in World War II,” explains Brian Adams, owner of Sign-A-Rama, Surbiton.

He adds: “It also serves as a gravestone for the families because many of the bodies were never returned. To vanalise something like this is just sick.”

The RAF Bomber Command monument in Green Park and the Animals In War memorial were spray-painted on Sunday night. Police are investigating the incident, no arrests have been made.

Following the news a London radio station decided to find a sign company who would be willing to help in covering the damage at the Green Park memorial.

Adams explains: “LBC called me yesterday and said they were looking to partner with a sign company to come up with a temporary solution for the memorial.

“We've been briefed by RAF Command. They want logos for a campaign they're launching to raise funds for the maintenance of memorials around the country.

“We've undertaken a site visit this morning -  it's in design at the minute. If the artwork gets approved today, we'll produce it in tomorrow morning and hope to install the banner in the afternoon.”
