ITC boast faster, stronger, and cleaner cutters

With original equipment manufacturers such as Zund, Esco and Kongsberg now offering high speed spindles on their flatbed routers and cutters, the tooling options also need to keep up with the faster technology.

ITC claims that is new ‘balanced line’ flute cutters guarantee exceptional surface finishes and chip clearance

Industrial Tooling Corporation (ITC) has announced a solution with a new ‘balanced’ range of single-fluted cutters for manufacturers who run their plotter and router machines at spindle speeds upwards of 60,000rpm.

“Whilst two flute cutting tools are naturally balanced and minimise harmonic effects, excessive noise and reduce spindle stress and vibration; the negative aspect for two fluted cutters is that they offer poor chip evacuation when running at such high speeds on acrylic and similarly soft materials,” says Sally Hunt of ITC.

She continues: “To this end, ITC's Clearcut line that has been the benchmark tool for the sign-making industry, has now been extended to provide a fully balanced cutter that can run at remarkably high spindle speeds giving surface edges that eliminate the requirement for flame or hand finishing operations.

Whilst two flute cutting tools are naturally balanced and minimise harmonic effects, excessive noise and reduce spindle stress and vibration; the negative aspect for two fluted cutters is that they offer poor chip evacuation when running at such high speeds on acrylic and similarly soft materials

The Clearcut line has expanded its range to incorporate the new cutters and extensive testing has, according to ITC, proved a reduction in spindle noise, improved chip evacuation and surface finishes and also significant productivity gains.

Hunt concludes: “Like all tools in the Clearcut range, the balanced series will soon be available in diameters that include 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6mm with an overall length from 40 to 75mm and an optimised length of cut from 7 to 26mm depending upon the overall length. As expected with the Clearcut range, the new 'balanced' tools are manufactured from an ultra wear resistant micro grain carbide that extends tool life.”
