Chris Eubank joined the print industry on the final day to talk about his glory days

Vivid Laminating Technologies enjoyed its busiest show yet with customers showing great interest in its offering, in particular the new Velo Blade Digital Die-Cutting system.

Lewis Evans, product manager, comments: “Yesterday we were here running it all day with current customers who have already got the Matrix and they want to add to their portfolio and open up a whole new range of products that they can produce in-house.

“We had some sales on the Velo yesterday and continual sales on the Matrix – yesterday was a great day for us at Vivid and it was great today. We always try to come each year with new products and a new offering to make it worthwhile for the visitors.

“Do trade shows still have a place in the industry? Yes, I think they definitely do, judging by the last two days here. Of course there are things we can all do better or differently to improve, which I think can be done year-on-year, but overall with the people that came and the response that we’ve had it’s something that we feel is an important part of our business.”

The winner of the personalised pinball machine was Kyle Martinez, director of Ace Wraps in Taunton, Somerset, who has been in the trade for 14 years. “I went to the show a few years ago with a previous company and now I’m here this year with my own company and I bring the guys so they can see everything here,” he says.

Catching up on product development and new products being released at the show is the reason he and his team visit, as he explains: “I want the guys to keep up to date with what’s going on in the world because there are obviously new products coming out and it’s good to keep good relationships with all of our suppliers.” His new pinball machine is set to take pride of place in the office back in Taunton.

It’s generated a lot of interest and we’ve got some really good leads

Vpress, alongside Ricoh, was showing customers how its technology can be used to automate the online ordering process in print. Visitors were invited to submit their photographs either via phone or on a PC and watch as it was placed into a production system that created personalised beer bottle labels.

Kelvin Bell, director at Vpress, comments: “It’s been very busy with people wanting to know exactly what we can do. We’ve actually got a working print room on the stand, which nobody’s ever done before. Here, we’re placing orders online and the orders are being produced and people are walking away with it. It’s generated a lot of interest and we’ve got some really good leads.”

Whilst exhibitors were busy interacting with customers, former professional boxer Chris Eubank graced the stage to answer questions about his life and career, followed by a book signing event which saw visitors queueing up for a photograph with the legend himself.
