Projection mapping turns heads at ISE

An impressive production mapping installation turned heads at this year’s Integrated Systems Europe (ISE).

The installation spanned 392 floors and used 400,000 lumens

The project saw a colourful projection mapping installation on the façade of the new 25-storey nhow Amsterdam RAI hotel – the venue of ISE 2019.

Hire and production specialist, LANG, managed the ambitious project which required a range of experts to come together to successfully complete the installation.

Panasonic’s PT-RZ31K projectors provided the 400,000 lumens needed to project the mapped content onto 392 windows of the geometrically-shaped building.

3D mapping firm, TenFeet and media server firm, Green Hippo, worked together to deliver the content and visual display company, Pro Display, developed, supplied, and installed the projection film required to make image reproduction possible.

One of the issues we had was the reflection on the windows, or rather lack of reflection

The film used for the project is a removable dry application self-adhesive film that enabled the windows on the hotel to receive and display the content being projected onto them.

A challenging aspect of the installation was creating a multi-storey projection screen that spans across 392 windows on an irregularly shaped building.

Speaking in an interview with Paul Milligan, InAVate’s ISE 2019 correspondent, Mike Blackman, founder of ISE says: “One of the issues we had was the reflection on the windows, or rather lack of reflection, and Pro Display came in and did all the foil for the windows.

“So, there was almost 400 windows that have been coated last week with the foil to actually create the projection surface […] it’s something that really marks us on the map for projection mapping.”
