EFI’s Connect Conference is taking place this week at the Wynn Las Vegas in the US gambling haven of Las Vegas, Nevada

Taking place this week at the Wynn Las Vegas, the event, now in its 17th year, has attracted interest from all corners of the global print market, with visitors hailing from around the world.

Speaking in his keynote address, Guy Gecht, chief executive of EFI, said: “As with the developments we have all seen with personal computers and mobile technology, artificial intelligence promises to create more opportunities.

“In print, it can drive preventive diagnostics and predictive maintenance, which helps our customers improve their top and bottom lines.”

EFI has treated delegates to the worldwide premiere of its new superwide roll-to-roll and soft signage printers in the form of the VUTEk 5r and 3r models—both of which can reach speeds of up to 4,896sq ft per hour in resolutions of 1200dpi.

Both new machines feature EFI UtraDrop technology, and are also available with a range of upgrade options, such as light colours and white for multi-layer printing; inline finishing for all-in-one printing, cutting, slitting, and collecting; auto backlit and blockout printing.

Rami Cohen, general manager of Israel-based print firm Campus Digital Imaging, recently purchased a VUTEk 3r and has paid tribute to the new model, saying: “Before, we had to move finished rolls to a dedicated machine to cut them into sheets. Now, the sheeting and slitting happen on the fly, simultaneously with the printing itself.”

Attendees at Connect have also been given the opportunity to view the new EFI VUTEk FabriVU 520, a 5.2m soft signage printer that now represents the largest of its kind on offer from EFI.

EFI says the new machine allows users to produce a wider range of soft signage products, such as wall murals, theatre drapes, and other superwide seamless applications.

In addition, delegates in Las Vegas this week have been able to learn more about about version five of EFI’s Productivity Suite end-to-end workflow, as well as next-generation EFI Fiery digital front end production technologies.
