Agfa rolls out the red carpet for customers

Agfa Graphics has concluded an exclusive Red Carpet Event at its headquarters in Mortsel, Belgium to celebrate the European launch of its brand new machinery, the Jeti Mira and Tauro flatbeds as well the Acorta cutting table, first seen at the International Sign Expo in Las Vegas.

Hundreds of Agfa’s European customers gathered at its Belgian headquarters for its Red Carpet Event last month where it launched the Jeti Tauro and Mira flatbeds in addition to its Acorta cutting table, which features the first ever use of digital projection technology for production setup

Hundreds of Agfa’s European customers flocked to the event to see the innovative new technology in action. The state-of-the-art models are sure to rattle Agfa’s competitors with promises of increased productivity, lightning speeds, and Agfa’s ‘thin ink layer’ technology.

Willy Van Dromme, marketing manager for sign and display at Agfa, comments: “The thin ink layer technology is the really unique aspect of the Agfa print quality. We have designed an ink that can hold a high concentration of pigment, meaning the user needs very little ink, it also means you have a wide gamut, and it means you have a very thin ink layer.

“The combination of these three elements is Agfa’s ‘thin ink layer’ technology, and you can feel when touching a printed sheet that it is very similar to an offset page, which is very much appreciated by our customers.”

The Jeti Tauro and the Jeti Mira are designed for the high-end wide-format sign and display printing market. The Tauro H2500 is a 2.5m six-colour UV inkjet printer with multiple automation options, and the ability to work at up to 275sqm per hour.

We were very strong in the high-end segment with the Jeti Titan, but we soon discovered the need for a high-end hybrid solution, which we have now developed into the Tauro

The Mira features a moving gantry that boasts pinpoint precision and can print at speeds of 206sqm per hour, as well as using Agfa’s Print and Prepare feature that enables the user to load new media while the printer is working.

The Jeti Mira is a 2.7m wide true flatbed six-colour and white UV-inkjet printer, featuring a
moving gantry that prints with pinpoint precision, a dockable roll-to-roll option, a varnish
option to add effect to POP displays, and speeds of up to 206sqm per hour

Agfa also launched its new Acorta automatic cutting plotter, Agfa’s first foray into finishing equipment, which uses auto-recognition to localise printed objects on the table, as well as the substrate height to eliminate the need for manual input of the job specifications.

Van Dromme continues: “We set ourselves an ambitious target to become one of the top three players in sign and display. We have global reach in sales and service, so we have the organisation to be successful in this target.

“The ambition can only be realised if we have the proper roadmap in place to comply with our ambition. We were very strong in the high-end segment with the Jeti Titan, but we soon discovered the need for a high-end hybrid solution, which we have now developed into the Tauro.”

The Acorta is the first piece of finishing equipment created by Agfa, featuring automatic
recognition of printed images and reference points, with a multi-tool cutting head for
cutting, creasing and milling materials up to 4omm thick

The Red Carpet Event also saw the launch of Agfa’s new business guide entitled Seven critical questions to answer in order to grow your wide-format business, outlining how its products and services can boost customer success.

The new technology will be on display next at FESPA 2015 in Cologne later this month, and Agfa recently pledged to unveil more new products before year end, revealing that LED-curing is on its agenda going into 2016.
