Six charities combatting climate change, deforestation, and marine pollution have become a part of a new scheme set up by digital out-of-home (DOOH) company Ocean Outdoor.

Campaigns created by the charities will be displayed on city and roadside screens over the next 12 months in order to raise awareness of the critical environmental issues the charities are currently tackling.

The initiative named ‘Drops In The Ocean’ will provide the charities with the opportunity to publicise messages and schemes in unique and creative ways.

Ocean Outdoor has worked with charities such as the Marine Conservation Society since 2018 as part of its Ocean for Oceans environmental plan.

A project such as this means the Conservation Society will receive support for beach cleaning and tackling marine pollution. Charities were chosen following creative pitches detailing how the advertising space would be used.

As well as the Marine Conservation Society, Pipal Tree, Justdiggit, Cool Earth, Our Only World, and the Blue Marine Foundation were chosen as part of Ocean’s efforts to protect the planet.

Ocean has to be at the forefront of initiatives like these because outdoor advertising has an undeniable physical and environmental impact...

Richard Malton, chief marketing officer for Ocean Outdoor, says: “Ocean continues to reassess its operations and manage its real estate in response to the global environmental agenda. With climate a top priority, the principles of Environment, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG) are integral to our business, something we know is of paramount importance to our investors, partners, and stakeholders.

“Ocean has to be at the forefront of initiatives like these because outdoor advertising has an undeniable physical and environmental impact, and because our success depends on the strength of our relationships with the communities where we live and work. The causes we are supporting here ultimately impact us all.”

Charities Pipal Tree, Justdiggit, and Cool Earth are all land-based beneficiaries that focus on reforestation, restoring ecosystems, and supporting indigenous communities.

The remaining three charities specialise in protecting the marine environment, including Our Only World which says: “The Drops in the Ocean fund is an immensely exciting opportunity for us to deliver our message to a wider audience.

“We hope to attract new interest and participation so we can all work together to meet the challenge of protecting our oceans.”
