ASICS look to lift the mood of Retford

ASICS has revealed an initiative to uplift the mood of towns and cities through ‘movement experiments’.

The Park, a brand experience company, has brought on Verve Display to produce signage for the motivation project

The scheme which has been started with mental health charity, Mind, is part of the ASICS State-of-Mind Index, a commission to survey the mental wellbeing of 40 counties throughout England.

The first experiment will take place in the town of Retford, Nottinghamshire, which according to the research, is the most in need of a mental uplift.

The venture which has been named Uplift Retford, will see the town transformed into a movement-inspired gym, that will use various pieces of signage and designs to bring the experiment to life.

Brand experience firm, The Park, has been brought in to help put the project together, which will take place on September 25th.

ASICS’ experiment has come together to see if movement can lift the entire mood of a town, using exercise-based pop-ups and initiatives.

The project means The Park will have to create a variety of designs and installations to fit with the brief and intentions set by ASICS and Mind.

After a prolonged period of uncertainty and restrictions there’s naturally been an impact on people’s wellbeing.

Designs for Uplift Retford show plans for individual letters to be produced to welcome residents and visitors to the town, along with the slogan “move your mind”.

When speaking to The Park, SignLink has been told that Essex-based company, Verve Display, will be creating the signage for the project.

An expert in exhibition and retail graphics, Verve covers a range of services from pop-up systems to digital wallpaper and banner stands. The company will be producing the letters, as well as the various experiential elements. 

Dr. Brendon Stubbs, the leading global expert in mental health and movement who oversaw the ASICS State-of-Mind Index, says: “After a prolonged period of uncertainty and restrictions there’s naturally been an impact on people’s wellbeing.

Stubbs adds: “This summer has shown the transformative nature of sport and the ability it has to uplift people. Never before has a whole town approach to uplifting mood through a day of exercise been attempted and measured in such a robust way.”
