Coca-Cola is using OOH and other campaigns to encourage recycling

Around 9.6 billion aluminium drink cans and 13 billion plastic bottles are produced in the UK each year, according to recycling information website Recycle More.

Coca-Cola sells approximately 200 billion aluminium cans a year, with 2.5 billion produced in Great Britain alone (including all its brands such as Fanta, Sprite and Dr Pepper). It is estimated around 1.8 billion Coke bottles are sold each day worldwide.

In keeping with the company’s brand, billboards featuring its iconic red background with a white ribbon-like hand pointing to the nearest recycling bin have been rolled out across Europe.

The campaign was most recently trialled at the Happy Energy Tour musical festival in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Publicis Italy – the agency behind the campaign – says that 85% of bottles discarded at the festival were put into the Coca-Cola branded recycling bin

According to Ad Week, Publicis Italy – the agency behind the campaign – says that 85% of bottles discarded at the festival were put into the Coca-Cola branded recycling bin – a figure the company says is “a significantly higher rate versus the previous year”.

In the UK, Coca-Cola has also rolled out ‘reverse vending machines’ at hot-spot attraction sites such as Alton Towers Resort, Chessington World of Adventures Resort and LEGOLAND Windsor Resort.

By recycling through one of the vending machines, consumers can receive 50% off entry at various UK attractions adding a further incentive to recycle.
