Swanline decreases environmental impact

Up until now, most outdoor signage was created from plastics, in order to sustain itself against wet weather. However, Swanline Paper and Board has launched its new outdoor display sign, Cygnus Outdoor Display, which has more of a soft spot for the environment than the signage that has gone before it.

The signs contain up to 60 percent recycled fibre and is FSC certified

The sign contains up to 60 percent recycled fibre, is FSC certified, and 100 percent recyclable. The displays can last up to 15 weeks with durability against water, even compared to signs that are coated with the more traditional polyethylene, which makes the sign non-recyclable.

The product can be used for outdoor hanging signage, temporary signs, bollards, and posters. The material protects against ripping, even when faced with wet weather. It can also be used indoors, when humidity might be an issue. This is a particular focus of the sign, as it needs to be as weather and moisture resistant as traditional signage.

Managing director of Swanline, says: “Cygnus Outdoor Display is a groundbreaking development in outdoor signage that delivers on quality, cost and environment. Its strong environmental credentials and unique, robust fibre construction enable it to be viable alternatives to plastic and PE-coated outdoor products.

“This is an incredibly exciting innovation for the industry as it takes outdoor signage to another level, combining multiple benefits that will have a significant positive impact for our customers.”

PE coating is not recyclable when attached to board, as the two need to be separated in order for them to be recycled. Very few firms do this, which means that paper products with PE coating often end up in landfill sites with other non-biodegradable rubbish.

Griffin continues: “Swanline is an expert in constructional materials and design. There is no limit to the range of materials we can offer and through sheer cleverness and skill in design, our graphics team can ensure that outdoor displays and signage stands out from the rest.

“Our focus is to constantly deliver unique solutions that will add value for customers.”

Despite not coinciding with traditional signage, the product is still available to print on and will still produce a high-quality print finish. In fact, when compared to fluted polypropolene, there is no flute shadow, whether it has been screen, offset, or digitally printed. The two-side coated board has been designed to work for most retailers.
