Gardners spreads recycling message

Print manufacturer Gardners have partnered with the City of Cardiff Council in support of its campaign to promote the safe disposal of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE).

Wasted electrical goods contain hazardous substances which can pose a risk to health and the environment if they are not disposed of correctly

Gardners installed the council’s bi-lingual signage outlining the proper disposal of electrical goods onto a fleet of 14 vehicles using its patented advertising system, Agripa.

The new banners will spread important messages to Cardiff residents in the hope of making a positive impact to WEEE disposal targets.

A council spokesperson says: “According to data released by the Environment Agency, a total of 591,005 tonnes of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) from both household and businesses were collected in the UK last year.

We're very pleased to work with Gardners on this project

“This represents just over 36 percent of the average amount of new equipment placed on the market in the three preceding years (2013-2015), well short of the minimum of 45 percent required by EU law. So clearly this is a major priority for Councils nationwide, as such we wanted to make sure that we are doing as much as possible to raise awareness and have a big impact in our local area.

“We’re very pleased to work with Gardners on this project. Keeping our city clean and void of harmful waste whilst promoting recycling are key concerns for the Council. We regularly use our own media space to promote bilingual Council messages so that they are clear and understood by all. We’ve found that regular communication through a visible platform can be very effective.”
