Allen Signs invests in green turbo-charger

One of the UK’s most well respected sign-making firms, Allen Signs, has revealed a major capital investment that will see the company take a pivotal move towards accelerated expansion—and it has done so while keeping an eye on its environmental responsibilities.

Spending £100,000 on a new EFI H1625 LED, the firm’s managing director David Allen comments: “This is a significant investment, but we are confident it will pay off as we’ll be able to do so much more and in a shorter time, which can only be good news for customers.

“We can also print in high definition on almost any material up to 2” (5.08cm) thick and 65” (165cm) wide, so the capabilities are endless.”

The machine bears a ‘green leaf’ on its logo, which is not a simple marketing exercise, but a tangible nod towards its ‘cool cure’ UV LED ink drying system.

The technology is renowned for its energy efficiency, and of course dispenses with the need for VOC emitting solvents—without any loss in quality of image fidelity.

Allen Signs was started by Barry Allen in 1965, and continues a firm commitment to socially and environmentally responsible manufacturing methods.

David has been a long-time admirer of the EFI H1625, and even penned a review for SignLink’s Under the Hood section on the technology, writing: “EFI also offers machines that carry the same DNA as this entry-level system that go all the way up to 3.2m wide in the form of the GS3250 Pro-TF. The range of printers and their applications in the EFI stable is vast, and so it is probably no surprise that large numbers of companies involved with super-wide format printing will probably have an EFI Vutek printer in their armoury. What is important about the H1625 is that it brings this company’s technology within the reach of smaller companies.

We already do a lot of printing for shop displays and exhibitions, but this will enable us to be even more creative

“The system’s modular design is also clever, as its different ink set options and upgrade features means it is a versatile beast that can adapt to the demands of the company that uses it. To my mind, for example, the SD option tied to a vacuum forming device could really give you a unique edge over your competition, broaden the contracts you can pitch for, or expand the products and services you can offer to your existing customer base.”

Matt Ryder from Double Red Print, a sister company of Allen Signs, added: “We already do a lot of printing for shop displays and exhibitions, but this will enable us to be even more creative. It can even print realistic-looking textures to give your image a canvas, leather, or wood grain effect.

“Retailers and other businesses are always looking to get ahead of the competition and attract customers’ attention and this new printer will help our clients to stand out from the crowd
