Antalis, now the official partner of the COP21 climate change conference, wants to stop accusations that paper is not environmentally-friendly

“Antalis and the paper industry in general must lead by example and continue the efforts already made to reduce their environmental impact such as through the increased use of cogeneration and renewable energy sources, and further more to promote recycled paper which has a lower impact on the environment,” says Hervé Poncin, chief operating officer of Antalis International.

He continues: “Environmental responsibility is an ongoing commitment that needs to be part of the DNA of every company if we are to make a lasting contribution to the preservation of the planet and reduce global warming. Antalis is proud to support COP21 and its ambitious objective.”

The paper used at the event—for things such as stationary, posters, handouts, and all other documentation—will have a five star rating under the Green Star System, therefore, will be recycled and carry the EU Ecolabel.

The 21st conference of the parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP21/CMP11) will be held in France from November 30th to December 11th. The objective of the conference is to limit the increase in global temperature to below 2 degrees Celsius.

Antalis has taken on the mission of making sure the paper industry’s voice is heard, as an industry that is often blamed for deforestation, the company aims to set the record straight.

Antalis’ ‘commitment to eco-responsibility’ involves promoting the use of recycled papers and offering the widest range of environmentally-friendly products in the market, as well as guaranteeing a complete absence of wood originating from natural forests by ensuring a 100 percent traceable supply chain is available.

Antalis will also foster the development of sustainably-managed forests, and as it stands, 75 percent of Antalis’ prodocuts are PEFC or FSC certified.

The paper company will also make available tools for its customers to help them make more eco-responsible choices including the Green Star system and the Green White Paper.

The Green Star system is a classification system which has information about the manufacturing process and attributes each paper to a star rating, while the Green White Paper explains the advantages of integrating paper into a company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR).
