“The new machine will allow us to increase our productivity by 50 percent, give us access to use even more innovative substrates, and the capability to print super fine detail on our prestigious projects,” says director Damian Quarmby.

He continues: “Using environmentally-friendly LED curing and the added UltraDrop technology for precision printing, the things we can achieve with this machine are incredible—we’re taking our large-format printing to a whole new level.”

The new machine adds to an existing EFI Vutek GS3200 model and is reportedly up to 82 percent more efficient.

“It was a natural progression for Quarmby to invest in GS3250LX with UltraDrop and LED technology after having many successful years with the mercury cured machine,” explains Wesley Small, territory manager at EFI.

He adds: “The benefits of LED are huge and a no-brainer when it comes to choosing between a mercury cured device and an LED enabled machine. Quarmby will now be able to not only reap the benefits from a total lower cost of ownership, due to lower energy bills and less wastage, but LED now gives them the ability to pitch for different types of work/substrates which they were previously unable to print on with mercury lamps.”

With 15 staff and a turnover of around £1m, Quarmby Colour is a family run business and is steered by father Ron with sons Damien and Darren. The new technology at the firm will now reportedly allow it to pursue new contracts in the display, exhibition, and wider imaging industry.

Damian continues: “Our long-standing reputation for quality display graphics has given us an impressive client list, including large supermarkets, fast-food chains, TV and film production, museums, retail outlets, advertising agencies, corporate marketing departments, acclaimed artists, and designers.”

The GS3250LX has some significant bells and whistles. It features eight colours plus white ink printing. The aforementioned UltraDrop ink technology offers smaller drop sizes and more precise control with 7pL print heads, as well as high apparent resolution and high-definition quality with four-level grayscale and two ink density levels. This in turn results in four-point text quality, as well as smoothness in shadows, gradients, and transitions.

Damian concludes: “This printer gives us the capability to expand our production and take on even more prestigious projects, opening many more doors for us and our clients.”
