Since beginning his walk, Captain Tom also became the oldest artist ever to claim a UK No 1 chart single, for his cover of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ with Michael Ball and the NHS Voices of Care choir

Captain Tom, who was also made an honorary colonel on his birthday, raised more than £33m for NHS charities by walking 100 lengths of his garden during the ongoing novel coronavirus (Covid-19) crisis.

To mark his birthday celebrations on May 1st, Ocean Outdoor, in partnership with Landsec, which owns the Piccadilly Circus screen, broadcast a message alongside a picture of Captain Tom smiling down on the capital.

Ocean Outdoor UK joint managing director Phil Hall says: “Like the rest of the country, we wanted to send our best regards to Captain Moore, a national hero who has achieved so much.”

Landsec commercial media manager Derek Manns adds: “We’re pleased to be able to join the national celebrations for Captain Moore by dedicating the Piccadilly Lights to his life and achievements.”
