Because these charging machines are outside all the time, they face every weather condition possible. They are also used by many different people, meaning they need to be robust and easy to use.

Touch technology firm Zytronic was able to meet these criteria with its custom designed durable Projected Capacitive Technology touch sensors, and as a result was selected to provide the interface for the Circontrol Raption Series of electric vehicle chargers.

Zytronic’s Spanish partner and touchscreen solutions firm, Iberhermes, selected the ZYBX custom printed 8.5” touch sensor due to its reliable, outdoor performance in self-service applications along with the ZXY110 controller.

The 8” Zytronic touchscreen on Circontrol chargers is made using anti-glare etched glass to make reading the display in daylight easier. The height and location of the display and connectors has also been carefully considered to ensure accessibility for all users including those with disabilities.

Commenting on the technology, Victor Hernando, product manager of Circontrol says: “Electric car charging stations must be robust enough to work in any weather, all year round, and provide easy to use, customer friendly interface.

“A key attribute to our Raption series is its ease of use, and being installed in mainly outdoor, unattended locations, we had to select components that would continue to deliver that usability, whatever the weather. Zytronic’s unique touch technology ticked all the boxes in that respect.”
