HSE ruling could stimulate boom
Sign-makers specialising in safety signs could be on the verge of a market boom as the Health and Safety Executive has ruled that large industrial and workplace sites should introduce speed limits and clear signage to reduce the more than 5,000 accidents a year in such areas.

“Large commercial sites, industrial and research parks and warehousing and logistics sites all pose their own particular risks. For the general public, speed is also an important issue for educational facilities, retail parks, car parks and other similar areas,” explains Charmaine Kimpton of sector specialist Messagemaker.
She adds: “If you’re responsible for any of these types of premises, or anywhere else that vehicles are moving around, you have a legal duty to ensure the health and safety of not only your employees but to also protect the public in facilities open for general access.”

Messagemaker is also in line to see a significant bump in business as its vehicle-activated LED digital signs (VAS) are a popular technology solution for this application, as internally-mounted radar triggers a warning sign to light up and grab the driver’s attention.
