Cardiff-based Dragon Signs has revealed how its decision to expand into the manufacture and supply of personal protective equipment (PPE) during the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) allowed it to significantly grow its business.

Rhys Harrington, director of Dragon Signs, praised the flexibility of the business and its ability to take on new work

Traditionally a sign-making company, Dragon Signs has won a series of new contracts since making the move into PPE production earlier in the year, working with a wide range of customers.

Among Dragon Signs clientele is Connells Group, one of the largest estate agency networks in Wales, which linked up with the sign-maker in order to protect its staff and customers as it reopened its 600 branches following lockdown.

Protective equipment delivered to Connells Group included shatterproof, polycarbonate sneeze screens and desk dividers, health and safety stickers and floor directional stickers, as well as full-face visors.

Rhys Harrington, director of Dragon Signs, says: “It is thanks to the flexible way our company operates that when the pandemic hit earlier this year, our teams were quick to adapt and utilise our in-house facilities to produce this vital equipment.

“It’s safe to say that 2020 hasn’t been what we had envisaged but I’m proud that by thinking creatively we have been able to transform our business, protect jobs and produce vital equipment that will enable organisations to keep going at this incredibly challenging time.”

Phil Smith, head of group procurement at Connells, praised the impact that the Dragon Signs partnership has had on the business

Smith says: “Having previously worked with Dragon Signs we already knew that they produced materials of the highest standard, so we felt confident that their protective equipment would be second-to-none.

“While Covid-19 remains a threat across the UK, we are secure in the knowledge that our colleagues can interact with our customers in a Covid-19 secure manner.”
