Bookmaker powers print in missing person campaign

Bookmaker Paddy Power has launched a new campaign to help find missing people, by filling a stand at a Scottish football club with printed blank silhouettes.

Some 1,190 silhouettes have been placed in the South Stand inside Motherwell’s Fir Park stadium

Working in partnership with charity Missing People and Scottish Premiership football club Motherwell, Paddy Power placed 1,190 silhouettes in the South Stand inside the team’s Fir Park stadium.

Cardboard fan cut-outs have become commonplace in sports stadiums in recent month, with supporters unable attend events due to the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. Fans have been able to have their image printed on a cut-out, which is then placed on a seat in the stadium for when games take place.

By using a blank silhouette, Paddy Power hopes to raise awareness of missing people. The bookmaker will also place posters across its 650 shops in the locations that the missing people were last seen.

“We all know fans are missing from football at the moment, but some are missing from wider life, too,” a Paddy Power spokesperson says.

We hope this campaign, and striking image, can spark conversations across the country

“We hope this campaign, and striking image, can spark conversations across the country – as the majority of our customer base are young men, the demographic that’s most at risk of going missing.”

Jo Youle, chief executive of Missing People, adds: “This is a highly visible and needed opportunity for families in communities across the UK to raise awareness of their missing loved one – at a time when it is so hard to search due to Covid-19 restrictions.

“We will also be getting the message out via Paddy Power stores to reach a key group of people at higher risk of going missing: men aged 18-39.”
