Metamark heats up branding project

Bristol-based Vital Signs has for many years worked with an important regional company that has set the sign company a challenge to heat up the impact of their marketing and branding.

Vital Signs created this branding for a catering company with Metamark’s Paintmask

Director of Vital Signs, Gareth Lewis, came up with a design that would work with a wooden substrate, but decided to keep the whole plot in character and use paint. Using a stencil cutter, paint can be applied through the stencil onto the substrate and on removal of the stencil, the detail underneath remains. This method was also chosen because applying films to substrates like wood that will receive heavy-traffic and usage can see it start to degrade fairly quickly.

Lewis turned to Metamark’s Paintmask, a matt plastic film that is 100 microns thick, with an adhesive that is designed to enable clean removal from the substrate. It is sat on a special liner that guarantees the material cuts and weeds easily and keeps the detail intact.

This was such a clean and relatively simple process and the result is so good, it’s something we want to use again

Lewis cut and weeded his stencils, then applied Paintmask, as well as a fast-drying paint through the stencil to the substrate. Once the right stage in drying was reached, the stencils were removed to leave the brand behind without any leftover adhesive. Vital Signs reveals that the job went ‘smoothly’ allowing Lewis to do ten signs and make it home in time to watch the football.

Lewis says: “This was such a clean and relatively simple process and the result is so good, it’s something we want to use again. When you consider the range of all the finishes that can be stencilled, it’s a really versatile application technique. We’re going to be using it a lot and getting creative with the possibilities.”
