Before I started looking into the topic of retail signage solutions for this month’s feature (on page 53), I had not taken much notice of the signs and displays that feature on our high streets. Now, I realise, they play a much more important role than I expected.

Jane Ball, head of group marketing at CJ Retail Solutions, made an excellent point about the quality of signage in retail environments.

She says: “A poorly designed and installed solution can often lead to damaged and missing products, resulting in loss of profitability. Naturally, if products are not there, hidden or even damaged, a shopper simply will not buy.”

It is true. A messy, uninformative display in a shop does not make you want to buy the products on offer. However, a clean, well put together stand that has all the right information about the products, does.

I think back to buying make-up and thoroughly inspecting a display to find out the price, to no avail. I am sure many of us agree that we want our shopping experience to be as easy as possible. So, it is great to see that there are companies which are bringing products to the market that are making the production of these signage solutions easier.

Take SAi, for example. The company has an active install base of 100,000+ worldwide for its software. That is a lot of signage being made, so keep an eye out next time you are shopping.
