In my feature on Built-up Letters, page 57, it was Kyle Giles, marketing executive of William Smith Group 1832, who reassured me, saying: “Every business needs a sign, so it will only continue to prosper.”

With so many possibilities available in built-up letters, many of which you will see in the feature, it is a comfort to know that creativity is still going strong. Of course, everything evolves, so I have found out exactly which materials, technology, and styles are currently the most popular.

However overall, as long as businesses have something they want to shout about, the need for banners, shop front signs, point-of-sale, and more is here to stay.

Speaking of being put at ease, it was Paul French, chief executive officer of Metamark, in our Trade Comment section, page 30, who comments on the effect of Brexit on the sign industry: “I would like to think there will be some opportunity wrapped up in there somewhere for sign-makers. If someone has something new to say or sell, there is usually a job for a sign-maker attached to it.”

So, do not panic. Amid confusion and uncertainty, the sign industry ‘keeps calm and carries on’, whilst producing the amazingly creative work it is renowned for.
